Can Dogs Eat Oats?

SafePlain, Cooked

Yes. Plain, cooked oats (oatmeal/porridge) are safe for dogs and a good source of fibre.

Why

Oats carry no toxicity concern. They're a reasonable grain option, including for dogs with sensitivities to wheat.

Serving tips

  • Cook plain in water, not flavoured instant packets which often contain sugar
  • Skip added sugar, honey, or artificial sweeteners entirely
  • A small serving alongside regular food is plenty
