Can Dogs Eat Pap?

SafePlain, Cooked

Yes. Plain maize meal porridge (pap) is safe for dogs in moderation and is easily digestible.

Why

Pap carries no toxicity concern when served plain. As a starch, it's fine as an occasional carbohydrate addition but shouldn't replace a nutritionally complete diet.

Serving tips

  • Serve plain, without butter, sugar, or heavy seasoning
  • Fine as a small addition to a meal, not a replacement for balanced dog food
  • Skip tomato-and-onion relish (chakalaka) served alongside — see our chakalaka page
