Can Dogs Eat Papaya?

SafeFlesh Only

Yes, ripe papaya flesh is safe for dogs in moderation and is even used in some digestive supplements.

Why

Ripe papaya flesh has no toxicity concerns for dogs. The seeds and skin are the exception — seeds contain compounds better avoided in quantity, and the skin is tough and hard to digest.

Serving tips

  • Remove seeds and skin entirely
  • Offer small, ripe pieces only
  • Unripe (green) papaya is more likely to cause GI upset — stick to ripe fruit
