Can Dogs Eat Peanuts?

SafePlain, Unsalted, Shelled

Yes. Plain, unsalted, shelled peanuts in moderation are safe for dogs and are technically a legume rather than a tree nut.

Why

Peanuts carry no toxicity concern for dogs when plain and unsalted. As with peanut butter, the main practical risk isn't the peanut itself but added salt, flavourings, or the possibility of a xylitol-containing product nearby — always double check what you're actually offering.

Serving tips

  • Choose plain, unsalted, shelled peanuts only
  • Avoid honey-roasted, salted, or flavoured varieties
  • A small handful occasionally is a reasonable treat portion
