Can Dogs Eat Pretzels?

ModerateOccasional, Small Amounts

A small plain pretzel occasionally is unlikely to cause harm, but pretzels are high in salt, which adds up quickly relative to a dog's size.

Why

Pretzels carry no specific toxin, but their salt content is significant relative to a dog's much smaller body size compared to a human. Occasional small amounts are a low-risk treat; regular feeding isn't a good idea.

How to serve it safely

  • Keep it a rare, small treat
  • Avoid flavoured or heavily salted varieties
  • Watch for excessive thirst after a salty treat as a sign to cut back
