Can Dogs Eat Vinegar?

ModerateSmall, Diluted Amounts Only

A small, diluted amount of plain vinegar (like apple cider vinegar) is generally tolerated, but undiluted vinegar can irritate the mouth and digestive tract.

Why

Vinegar's acidity is the main consideration — in the small, diluted amounts sometimes used in home remedies it's not typically a concern for healthy dogs, but straight, undiluted vinegar can cause mouth and stomach irritation, particularly in dogs with existing GI sensitivity.

How to serve it safely

  • Always dilute significantly if using for any home purpose involving your dog
  • Avoid offering vinegar directly or undiluted
  • Discontinue if you notice any drooling or reluctance to eat afterward
